Business card

                                                         Business Card A.Santos2013
What is the focal point of this business card? (What part is supposed to catch the reader's eye first?)
The focal point of my business card is my illustrations.

What job, role, or activity does this business card describe?
This business card describes my job as an illustrator.
Is this supposed to be a formal (serious) or informal (casual) business card?
I took a casual approach with this card to go with the casual personality of the business and myself.
This is my business card design for illustrations. For my design I used my own illustrations to showcase some of my work. I also used a bright color scheme since that's typically what I use in my work. Overall i like the design of the card.

May Photo Of the Day

May Photo of the Day A.Santos 2013
These are my photos for the month of May displayed in an artistic collage. For the most part I'm happy with the result, it's very colorful and attention grabbing.

Alphabet Art

                                             "F-I-E-R-C-E" A.Santos 2013
This is my alphabet art. I chose the word fierce because it's not a commen word and it's very desprictive. I like how the image came out however, if I could redo this I would find fiercer objects to photograph because these objects just aren't fierce. I also tried to give it a fierce background with the orage but I'm not so sure if I like it.

Dyptich

"School's Out" A.Santos 2013
For this dyptich Ryan posed as being bored in class and then feeling victorious that school was over and he had survived another day. What I don't like about this image is that the bottom came out dark in all my photographes, but I chose to keep the shadow in the second image because I liked it and felt like it added some character to the piece. Overall I'm happy with the end result.

"Purse Snatcher" A.Santos 2013
For my second dyptich Christian was returning Sara her wallet, which she dropped and in the second he is trying to steal her purse. I purposely chose to use the second image, despite it being darker, because I liked the irony that the victim was in the light and the criminal was in the darkness, fading into the shadows. In the end, I really like how this dyptich came out too.

"Pieces of Kennedy" Photo Walk

This is a picture I took this right outside the football field. I think it represents our school nicely because Kennedy takes alot of pride in its sports teams, especially the football team.

Object Series

The Tragically Tasty Ending of Mr. Johnny Appleseed A.Santos 2013
For my object series I choose to use an apple. I took a picture of the apple after each bite. I'm not particulary happy about the series itself, I feel like its too common of an object. I tried to make the concept a little interesting by biting it and trying to make the apple more vibrant in photoshop.

This is my second idea, it got a little crazy.

Surrealism Project

                                                A.Santos 2013 "Mermanda"
I had fun with this project, I took a picture of myself with a goofy face, played around with the colors in photoshop and found a picture of a fish bowl on the internet and put a picture of myself as a mermaid inside. I also put a mermaidfied me in my left eye. I only used two pictures from the internet and two of my own. I really liked this project and instead of going for a serious mood I went for a fun-loving comical feel.

A.Santos "Collide With the Sky" 2013
This is just another project I made in my free time after I finished the mermaid one, I really like how it came out though so I decided to post it too. The idea for this one was based off of Pierce The Veil's "Collide with the Sky" Album (below).

Photo Walk April 19th 2013

Our assignment was to take pictures of people today and these were some of the best shots I got. It was rather cloudy so in some pictures it is a little dark but I tried to get alot of candid shots from different viewpoints and angles.I wish there had been a little more sunlight and in the future I'll try to get better angles and also pay more attention to the background.

Surrealistic Theme

For my surrealistic photo montage I’d like to do a self-portrait.

Idea #1: For my first idea I want it to portray me looking into a fish bowl and in the fish bowl is me as a mermaid. I want the colors outside the fish bowl to be darker and less vibrant and I want the inside to be brighter. An alternative to this idea would be me but my head is the fish bowl with the same concept.

Idea #2: For my next idea I would like to create a photo inspired/based on the cover artwork for my favorite band’s most recent album. It would have an image of my house but in Photoshop I would edit it to look destroyed. From the top (roof) I would be flying up to the sky  and on the ground I would have images of me but they would be faceless.

Surrealist Artist Review

Artist’s Name:  Remedios Varo
Title of Artwork : Woman Leaving the Psychoanalyst   Date of Work : circa 1960
In ‘Women Leaving the Psychoanalyst’ there is a woman wearing a cloak holding a face and a basket. She is leaving what I assume is the psychoanalyst and holding the face over a well.  A part of her veil is also falling with a face in it. There are dark clouds above her. Varo’s lines are very clean and straight, everything is very geometric. The right side is also brighter and lighter than the left. There is smoke coming from the door wrapping around her ankles.
Because the psychoanalytical theory deals with making the unconscious   conscious by releasing repressed emotions and experiences, I feel that the basket she is holding is a basket of burdens and the face is her hand is that of a prominent male in her life like her father. She is dropping the face into a well because it is no longer a burden and as she releases it a part of her veil, which masked her true identity, falls with it.  The smoke seems to be leaving with her but it is wrapped along her ankles pulling her back in to release the rest of her burdens. The right side of the image, which is significantly lighter, brighter, and vibrant, symbolizes the light coming to save her from the darkness that surrounds her.
I feel this piece is very successful, even before learning the title of this piece I had a similar idea of her releasing some type of past burden. I feel the way I do about this piece because I just finished learning about Freud’s psychoanalytical theory and I have a huge interest in psychology and a tendency to relate all art to  something psychological.

Artist’s Name:  Ronen Goldman

Title of Artwork : At The Chime Of The City Clock  Date of Work : unknown

In This picture there is a woman, a sack a reaching hand, and a building.

I think the photo is depicting how this woman is so consumed by her bag of burdens that she doesn’t notice the clock chime and is being pulled away by some force.

I think this piece is successful, it’s simplistic but it has a dream like feel. For example it I see it as the opposite of the common dream of someone being chased.
*******************************************************************************

I feel like both pieces have to do with stress. One is a painting and the other is a photo. Both depict a woman and some type of bag. Neither woman's face is fully revealed. In one the woman is relieving herself of a burden whereas in the other it seems she is being dragged away from her problems.

Primary Colors

Red A.Santos 2013
For 'Red' i took a picture of my Docs, which looked very bright in the sun light.

Blue A.Santos 2013
For 'Blue' i took a picture of my Cookie Monster ice cream, which was a brighter blue that was very vibrant.

Yellow A.Santos 2013
For 'Yellow' I took a picture of the curb, which was painted yellow. I had many images of yellow objects but i choose this because I like the contrast of the yellow background with black letters.

Then & Now

                                                         "Then&Now" A.Santos 2013
This is the recreation of a photo of me and my sister. When it was taken in 1999 my sister was a few months old and I was 4. Our pose is a little off and the room we took this in has been redecorated. I also tried to mimick the hair style I had in 1999, but it didn't work out too well. Its okay, not my favorite though.

Artistic Inspirations

Cow Wallpaper , 1966 by Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol has always been a huge inspiration of mine, I love how he could take common images and just by repetition and playing with the colors, he could produce something catchy and thought provoking. I love pop art and I also like the animated quality of some of his less popular drawings.
Ansel Adams
I’m not completely certain of the name of this piece but it caught my eye, I really like the simplicity of Ansel Adam’s photos, and how intriguing they are being common scenes in nature.

Salvador Dali "The Face Of Mae West"
I love the surrealist style Dali is so well known for, his creativity and perception and imagination are inspire me to think outside the box and look at things in a different way.

Denny Dent 'John Lennon'
I am inspired by music and so I love that Denny Dent makes speed paintings of musical artist that inspire me. I also love the colors and style of his pieces.

Joel Brodsky
I really like these pictures of Jim Morrison and when I searched for the photographer I also found that he has taken many other pictures of Jim and The Doors. I really like how all the photos he takes are in black and white because there’s a lot of contrast and depth and dimension and it gives a lot of emotion to the image.

Tim Burton
Although he is widely known as a director and for his strange, weird movies, Tim Burton actually went to the California Institute of the Arts and studied character animation, which is what I’m considering studying and he has always been a huge inspiration and influence to me.

Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein’s comic book like artwork has always inspired and intrigued me , they’re very bold and graphic and most of the colors in them are only primary, but they’re very bold and have a nice contrast.

Photo Walk March 22

A.Santos 2013
This was a random pole with some graffiti on it, I though it was interesting and the colours were bold.

A.Santos 2013
This was a feather I saw on the ground, I liked how bright the white looked against the grass and dirt.

A.Santos 2013
This was taking as I stood next to a tree along a ledge with the stream below, I like the detail in the background here.

A.Santos 2013
I took this because I thought it was interesting and it reminded me of the rabbit hole Alice falls down to get to Wonderland.

David Hockney Inspired Collage

"Self Portrait" A. Santos 2013
"Castle on a Rock" A.Santos 2013

Both of this images consist of multiple photos placed together to create one bigger image. They were inspired by David Hockney's photo collages. The only editing I used on them was cropping, and adjusting the brightness and contrast levels to add depth and dimension.

For my self portrait I wanted to recreate my face. I used different photos to create an different image that depicts a different expression not found on my orignal photos. Overall I really like the end result. I went a little crazy on my hair though. For the next one, which was supposed to depict a landscape, I went in my backyard an took pictures of this fallen birdhouse because it was the most interesting thing I could find. I also wanted to show the side views of the house so i added them on and placed them to make the house look bigger as if it were a bird castle instead. The only thing I did to the photos was play around with the brightness and contrast levels to add dimension and depth because they all blend in. I wish it was a more interesting landscape or building, but overall I'm satisfied with the result.

Reflection

This is a reflection photo I took in my backyard. There was water in a fire pit and it was almost sunset. What I like about this is the colors but I wish my reflection was clearer. It's not my favourite but I still like it and it's the best image I have for this assignment.

Where I'd Rather Be...

                                                    "Wonderland" A. Santos 2013
If I could be anywhere, I'd rather be in Wonderland, with Vic Fuentes. And in place of the Cheshire Cat, I added in Grumpy Cat and made him magenta. Overall I'm happy with this piece however the one thing that bothers me is Vic Fuentes, because I couldn't quite make him look like he fits in the piece. But in terms of dimension, he is suppose to be ahead of me, which is why he's bigger.

PARTNER PORTRAITURE

                                                          Sisterly Love A. Santos 2013

For this image I first took a picture of my sister holding an empty jar. Then I took a picture of myself posing as if I were trapped in a jar. I pasted myself into the first image and used smudging to give the illusion I was in the jar. My biggest issue with this piece is that there was a glare where I pasted myself and I tried to recreate that glare with paint in photoshop but it just wasn't working. Without the glare it looked too unfinished.

30 Photo Challenge February

                                              Febuary Photo Challenge A.Santos 2013
This is a collage of pictures i took over the month of February. Each picture depicts the theme for the day, although some are a little more abstract than others. For instance the jar in the left hand bottom side is a jar of paper hearts to represent the theme of hearts.

Portrait Series

Portrait Series: Amanda A. Santos 2013

As an artist I try to express myself in a unique and creative way. If the viewer has to ponder about what I was feeling then I’ve done my job as an artist.  I like to make people think, I feel like there should be a thought process with art and the art should be symbolic. I still new to the art of photography, I don’t expect my photos to be phenomenal at this point because I’m still learning. But my goal is to one day be able to take stunning, thought provoking images. For now I’m satisfied with my portrait series, I think it’s a good start and showcases my potential and creativity.

Photography Composition

Leading Line
Dusty Chalk Board A.Santos 2013

-        A line that leads your eye to the focal point or into the distance to create depth.
To represent leading line I chose this close up image of a chalkboard. It was taken from an angle so that the ledge and erasers draw your eye into the distance. The lighting in the hallway also creates more depth which I thought made the image more intriguing.

Rhythm
The Many Faces of Me! A. Santos 2013

-Repetition of an image, a pattern
I took this image because there is a repetition of my face. To create this I used mirrored cabinets in my bathroom.
Vertical
The Basis of the Creative Mind. A. Santos 2013

-The image is longer in length than in width
I took this image in the art room. I found this mannequin torso and some books and piled them on top of each other. Because of that it would have been in better taste to take the picture vertically rather than horizontal where some of the image would be cut off.

Framing

-Shooting the image through something so that the main subject becomes framed.
I shoot this image in a mirror. The frame of the mirror is the frame in my picture. This image was also taken at the corner of the mirror so you can see the angle which makes it look more like a frame rather than a line.

Angle: Straight on
Trees in the Park A.Santos 2013
-When the camera is held straight, not being pointed up or down and getting an eye level view of the subject.
I took this while walking through the wooded section of the park. You can see both the sky and the ground equally because the camera was held straight at eye level on flat ground. The horizon line is perfectly centered.
