Then & Now

                                                         "Then&Now" A.Santos 2013
This is the recreation of a photo of me and my sister. When it was taken in 1999 my sister was a few months old and I was 4. Our pose is a little off and the room we took this in has been redecorated. I also tried to mimick the hair style I had in 1999, but it didn't work out too well. Its okay, not my favorite though.

Artistic Inspirations

Cow Wallpaper , 1966 by Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol has always been a huge inspiration of mine, I love how he could take common images and just by repetition and playing with the colors, he could produce something catchy and thought provoking. I love pop art and I also like the animated quality of some of his less popular drawings.
Ansel Adams
I’m not completely certain of the name of this piece but it caught my eye, I really like the simplicity of Ansel Adam’s photos, and how intriguing they are being common scenes in nature.

Salvador Dali "The Face Of Mae West"
I love the surrealist style Dali is so well known for, his creativity and perception and imagination are inspire me to think outside the box and look at things in a different way.

Denny Dent 'John Lennon'
I am inspired by music and so I love that Denny Dent makes speed paintings of musical artist that inspire me. I also love the colors and style of his pieces.

Joel Brodsky
I really like these pictures of Jim Morrison and when I searched for the photographer I also found that he has taken many other pictures of Jim and The Doors. I really like how all the photos he takes are in black and white because there’s a lot of contrast and depth and dimension and it gives a lot of emotion to the image.

Tim Burton
Although he is widely known as a director and for his strange, weird movies, Tim Burton actually went to the California Institute of the Arts and studied character animation, which is what I’m considering studying and he has always been a huge inspiration and influence to me.

Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein’s comic book like artwork has always inspired and intrigued me , they’re very bold and graphic and most of the colors in them are only primary, but they’re very bold and have a nice contrast.

Photo Walk March 22

A.Santos 2013
This was a random pole with some graffiti on it, I though it was interesting and the colours were bold.

A.Santos 2013
This was a feather I saw on the ground, I liked how bright the white looked against the grass and dirt.

A.Santos 2013
This was taking as I stood next to a tree along a ledge with the stream below, I like the detail in the background here.

A.Santos 2013
I took this because I thought it was interesting and it reminded me of the rabbit hole Alice falls down to get to Wonderland.

David Hockney Inspired Collage

"Self Portrait" A. Santos 2013
"Castle on a Rock" A.Santos 2013

Both of this images consist of multiple photos placed together to create one bigger image. They were inspired by David Hockney's photo collages. The only editing I used on them was cropping, and adjusting the brightness and contrast levels to add depth and dimension.

For my self portrait I wanted to recreate my face. I used different photos to create an different image that depicts a different expression not found on my orignal photos. Overall I really like the end result. I went a little crazy on my hair though. For the next one, which was supposed to depict a landscape, I went in my backyard an took pictures of this fallen birdhouse because it was the most interesting thing I could find. I also wanted to show the side views of the house so i added them on and placed them to make the house look bigger as if it were a bird castle instead. The only thing I did to the photos was play around with the brightness and contrast levels to add dimension and depth because they all blend in. I wish it was a more interesting landscape or building, but overall I'm satisfied with the result.

Reflection

This is a reflection photo I took in my backyard. There was water in a fire pit and it was almost sunset. What I like about this is the colors but I wish my reflection was clearer. It's not my favourite but I still like it and it's the best image I have for this assignment.

Where I'd Rather Be...

                                                    "Wonderland" A. Santos 2013
If I could be anywhere, I'd rather be in Wonderland, with Vic Fuentes. And in place of the Cheshire Cat, I added in Grumpy Cat and made him magenta. Overall I'm happy with this piece however the one thing that bothers me is Vic Fuentes, because I couldn't quite make him look like he fits in the piece. But in terms of dimension, he is suppose to be ahead of me, which is why he's bigger.

PARTNER PORTRAITURE

                                                          Sisterly Love A. Santos 2013

For this image I first took a picture of my sister holding an empty jar. Then I took a picture of myself posing as if I were trapped in a jar. I pasted myself into the first image and used smudging to give the illusion I was in the jar. My biggest issue with this piece is that there was a glare where I pasted myself and I tried to recreate that glare with paint in photoshop but it just wasn't working. Without the glare it looked too unfinished.

30 Photo Challenge February

                                              Febuary Photo Challenge A.Santos 2013
This is a collage of pictures i took over the month of February. Each picture depicts the theme for the day, although some are a little more abstract than others. For instance the jar in the left hand bottom side is a jar of paper hearts to represent the theme of hearts.

Portrait Series

Portrait Series: Amanda A. Santos 2013

As an artist I try to express myself in a unique and creative way. If the viewer has to ponder about what I was feeling then I’ve done my job as an artist.  I like to make people think, I feel like there should be a thought process with art and the art should be symbolic. I still new to the art of photography, I don’t expect my photos to be phenomenal at this point because I’m still learning. But my goal is to one day be able to take stunning, thought provoking images. For now I’m satisfied with my portrait series, I think it’s a good start and showcases my potential and creativity.
